Fletton Quays – Peterborough

Nov 14, 2018 | Architects & Commercial, Heritage & Listed Buildings, Offices |

As part of a £120 million redevelopment scheme at Fletton Quays, Granada secondary glazing was selected to design, manufacture and install bespoke arched secondary glazing systems to decrease the building’s carbon footprint and heat loss.

Developed in 1845 this Grade II Listed Property was used as Peterborough’s first railway station and has been derelict for over 40 years. With the addition of secondary glazing to prevent heat loss, Fletton Quays Railway Shed is now home to Peterborough’s council employees.

Double Glazed sealed units were specified and recommended to drastically reduce heat loss and noise levels. Granada’s secondary glazing installed with double glazed sealed units were manufactured and installed to achieve a U-Value of 0.8W/m2K. This is a considerable reduction in heat loss as studies have shown that a single glazed metal window has a U-Value of 5.7W/m2K. Decreasing a buildings U-Value will lower energy consumption leading to reduced energy bills.

As this building is Grade II Listed, the installation of secondary glazing needed to be discreet and unobtrusive. To match the style and aesthetic of the primary windows Granada Glazing manufactured and installed arched hinged units that consist of one glass panel. Hinged units are growing in popularity as they match the sight lines of the primary window and are invisible from the exterior of the building. They are easy to operate, offer exceptional acoustic and thermal performance and can be customised to meet most requirements.

Granada Glazing’s experienced commercial team often advise the best way to reduce noise levels and heat loss. Our secondary glazed systems are designed to operate and function within listed properties, they are slimline and highly durable to stand the test of time.

As acoustic and thermal specialists, Granada’s commercial team are often consulted in the early design stage. We can recommend and advise upon product style, glass type and how to achieve a discreet and unobtrusive installation. With a team of in-house designers and technical installation team, we can offer a full turnkey service from specification, design, manufacture, installation and aftercare.

Granada’s secondary glazing is commonly found within listed properties, conservation areas and areas with high noise pollution. Correctly specified and installed secondary glazing can maintain a buildings charm and character while bringing the glazing system into the 21st century.
