Secondary glazing designed and installed by Granada at Eden Locke Hotel, a design-led aparthotel in the heart of Edinburgh, means guests can enjoy a quiet and comfortable stay.

Located on George Street, one of the city’s busiest streets, the Victorian building is also Category B listed by Historic Environment Scotland, marking it as of special architectural or historic interest.

Granada’s secondary glazing was specified to reduce noise intrusion from traffic, a critical insulation requirement to keep noise complaints to a minimum. For this, high performing 10.8mm acoustic glass was recommended, which is capable of reflecting and blocking the low-frequency noise often emitted by vehicles.

When installed with a tightly sealed frame, correctly specified acoustic glazing will greatly reduce the volume from external sources, eliminating it completely or reducing it to a whisper.

The glass was fitted in Heritage 2-pane horizontal sliders powder coated in RAL 7012 (Basalt Grey) satin finish and RAL 9910 (Brilliant White) matt finish to suit the surrounding décor. A total of 50 windows across 27 rooms were treated.

A key challenge overcome on this project was ensuring that the hotel could maintain occupancy levels while the work was carried out. This was achieved through Granada’s close liaison with the management and blocking a small number of rooms per day to a pre-agreed schedule.

Granada Glazing partners with architects and specifiers on the design, manufacture and supply of high quality commercial secondary glazing for all sectors and building types across the UK.
